Industry Spotlight: Embracing the Human Touch in Web Design
Remember when everything online had to look perfectly polished, almost a bit… robotic? Well, things are changing! In 2026, there's a lovely trend emerging in web design that we're calling "Designed by a Human." It's all about bringing a bit of warmth, personality, and even a touch of charming imperfection back into our lives.
Think about it: in a world where AI can create flawless visuals in seconds, what truly stands out? Authenticity! This trend embraces things like rough brushstrokes, playful scribbles, and hand-drawn elements. It's a bit like the digital equivalent of a beautifully crafted handmade item - it feels more real, more trustworthy, and more you.
This isn't about being messy; it's about being intentional with a relaxed, human feel. It helps your brand connect on a deeper level, showing that there are real people with real creativity behind your business. It's a wonderful way to make your website feel less like a sterile shop window and more like a welcoming conversation.
AI in Focus: Getting Noticed by Smart Search Engines (Generative Engine Optimisation)
Last month, we chatted about how AI is helping with web accessibility. This month, let's talk about how AI is changing the way people find information online, and how you can make sure your business is right there when they're looking!
You might have noticed that when you ask a question on Google or use tools like ChatGPT, you often get a direct answer, not just a list of links. This is where something called Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) comes in. It's about making sure your website's content is structured in a way that these clever AI tools can easily understand, pick out, and use to answer questions - ideally, citing your business as the expert!
It's a bit different from traditional SEO, which focuses on getting you high up in the list of blue links. GEO aims for your brand to be part of the actual answer.
To do this, it's really helpful to:
- Be clear and direct: Answer common questions clearly and concisely right at the start of your articles.
- Show your expertise: Make sure your content is genuinely helpful and shows you know your stuff. Having named authors with credentials can really help here.
If your business isn't showing up in these AI-generated answers, you might be missing out on a growing number of potential customers. It's all about adapting to how people are searching now and in the future, making sure your expertise shines through!

Trend Watch: Building Trust with "Consent Engineering"
People are becoming much more aware of their privacy and how their personal information is used. This has led to a really important trend we're calling "Consent Engineering" - and it's all about building trust with your audience.
It goes beyond just ticking a box and GDPR compliance. It's about being clear and transparent with your customers about what you do with the information you collect. For example, when someone signs up for your newsletter, instead of just saying "Sign Up," you might say, "Sign up for our weekly tips on web design – no spam, just helpful advice!"
This approach includes things like:
- Clear communication: Telling people exactly what kind of emails they'll get and how often.
- Easy unsubscribing: Making it simple for people to leave your list if they want to.
Why does this matter? Because people are more likely to engage with brands they trust. When you're open and honest about data, you build a higher-quality mailing list of genuinely interested people. This means better open rates, more engagement, and ultimately, a stronger connection with your audience. It's about respecting your customers and building a relationship based on mutual trust.
I hope these insights into human-centred design, smart search, and building trust have given you some food for thought. I'm always here to help.

About Web Design Imagineers
Websites:
I run a business designing & developing websites for SMEs. I am impressing upon people the importance of "Mobile First" Websites. Google has a preference for mobile websites, that is, websites that are primarily aimed at the mobile market.
Why? Because people (your customers & clients) are more likely to access the internet via their mobile device. It's true! If you are not mobile-friendly or just don't have a website (and would like one...) drop me an email and I will explain all.
Software Products:
I am developing new software to help you in your business or workplace. Watch out for some announcements.
Mobile Apps:
I also develop "Progressive Web Apps" These are mobile apps designed to run via the internet and simply avoid the app stores and cost a tenth of even the lowest cost native app!
Books:
I also provide a wide range of business related ebooks and video training programmes.
Thank You:
I will be back soon with the next edition of The Digital Edge. Keep a look out in your inbox.
